3 weeks and counting... no not babies

So it's been a busy spring break. We've done some planting, some coffee dates, lots of eating and even caught up on some sleep. Kind of.

This month we went to our first milestone party, which is a party we attend that is once in a lifetime or a milestone. Our 'year of no' allows us to do things like this because we want to share in those extra special moments with friends and family without being overwhelmed. While we made good conversation and spent time with family, I left happy but with some kind of food poisoning or tummy bug. Thankfully, it wasn't the worst kind but I did stay in bed the entire day. Then it was back to regular life as we entered my sons Spring break. The first place we went to was the Garfield Park Conservatory here in Chicago. It's a free place with so much beauty and so many species of plants, I can't even count. Down the street is a butcher we've been meaning to hit up so we swung by there, grabbed 10lbs of chicken and then picked up my little sister from school and I prepared dinner and did some meal prep. The next few days I played mom to my sister while my mom was out of town, did some fun projects I hadn't had a chance to finish before and we pretended to clean the house. I'll be honest, I haven't been in the word like I like to be but it was a really exhausting week. Hell, I didn't even blog during this time but I did try to post intentionally on IG.

Some of these are from Easter and some are from after. I'd say that all in all, despite my lack of blogging about life, we've really enjoyed our time with family, friends and trying new things.

If you notice the handmade items, those are part of the baby shower gift that we wanted to give at the milestone party. My husbands cousin is welcoming their first baby. They're also avid Bulls fans so I made them a car seat cover because I couldn't find a "Oh the Places You'll Go" fabric. I made them a cute little mobile and a cute little lovey to match. The hot air balloons were a pain but looked so cute and were totally worth the work. I can't wait to meet their little baby next month and I can't wait to see them use the stuff I made. It's been so long since I had time to make something for someone.

Along the same note, I did attend another milestone party, I did not get sick from, and I did another handmade item. It is a small token gift for a gal from church who I don't know well but I love love and weddings and when people want to commit to one person for the rest of their lives. I don't show emotion often and claim to be dead inside, most of the time, but dammit, I love when people are in love and get married. So all that to say, her list of items she wanted was simple and humble. All she wanted was spices. So, I'm the jerk who does what they want anyway and made her a gift when she specifically requested no gifts. I love gifting and wanted to make her something that would be practical but also fun and on theme with the spices. I did a simple embroidery on napkins for her kitchen. I love #reusable everything so this was an important gift from me. She loved the napkins and the spices and I look forward to being her friend as we get to know each other more.

I went out for Ramen with friends for a birthday. It was the perfect spicy. I really liked the textures but I'm not in to rawish eggs or vegetables that aren't my norm so I picked a lot out and focused on the chicken and noodles. It was a good meal and I was only able to finish half the bowl.

We had #pizza at #bacci here in chicago. It's as big as my face. Decent crap pizza. Excellent customer service over at the Taylor street location. I will go back but will have a salad for dinner. I felt like I ate a pound of dough and cheese. I may have had a pound of dough and cheese...

So, you know, I'm pretty lazy sometimes. Mostly it's like I'm ill prepared for life. I know I need to make dinner every day but sometimes I just don't want to. Costco chicken has saved me time and time again from having to stop at a drive through. If my protein is taken care of, I'll go out of my way to do the sides. It's less overwhelming that way. With that said, I love the containers to be used for little baby greenhouses. My son and I took some time when the littles were sleeping and made a bunch of greenhouses and started a bunch of seeds. I let him control and choose what we planted. I don't even know if he likes peas but he planted a lot of them. The following week was Earth week and he took it to school to share as a reusable sculpture. At best it was our last minute attempt to show up with something. He didn't win the dress down day for the sculpture but he did win a dress down day for not being absent... #winning.

And that has been the last 3 weeks. Oh yeah, I'm starting counseling again. That's for another blog post though :)
